Blender | How to Make Fire
- Blender
Prerequisites
Blender: v 4.0.2
Contents
1. Add a Plane
Add it with shift + a, then reset scale and rotation.

2. Add a Subdivision Surface
Set the subdivision level to 3 (adjust to taste).
3. Set Up Vertex Paint
Switch to Vertex Paint mode and change the main color from white to black.
Then change the blend mode to Mix.

It doesn’t need to be precise — just paint the outer edge black.
This will be used for the Material’s alpha channel.

You should now see an entry added under the Color Attribute in the Data properties.

4. Set Up the Material
- Add a Noise Texture and adjust the parameters to taste.
- Animate time along the frame axis in the negative direction.
- Connect the color data added earlier via vertex paint (from Color Attribute) into the alpha channel.
- With Emission’s Color set to Red, connect a Color Ramp. I set the strength to around 1.3.

Here’s the result so far.

5. Adjust Color Management in Render Properties
Change it to Standard and MHC.

6. Also Make Some Smoke While We’re At It
Duplicate the fire object we just made and adjust its material.
- Change the color to grayscale.
- Lower the Emission strength to around 0.1–0.2.
- Try slowing down the animation timing a bit, and other similar tweaks.

一旦こんな感じになりました。

7. Render Result
Here’s the result after making various adjustments and rendering.
